Max-Session-Time

Hi Everyone,

My company is pretty experienced with Mikrotiks (we use them for wireless access points and hotspot servers) and they work quite well. However, we’re brand new to RADIUS. I’m trying to do something that seems as though it should be pretty straight forward, but isn’t apparent to me how I can accomplish this.

I would like to allow a user to have a certain amount of time to use the wireless hotspot, but then be logged out automatically after their time is up. The documentation gives an attribute of “Max-Session-Time”, but I can’t find any record of this existing except there. I can’t find the attribute number anywhere (I have the 2.8 version of the attribute dictionary, but 2.9.1 of RouterOS).

I can set other things, but not the Max-Session-Time. Has anyone else had any sort of luck with setting this for hotspot users? If I just need to add it to the dictionary, is this something that needs to be updated in the Mikrotik and the Radius server or just the Radius server?

I greatly appreciate any input, and hope that I can maybe help out sometime with my Radius learnings…

I guess I didn’t need max-session-time. Session timeout works ok. This is a fantastic piece of functionality!
