Maximum distance with standard 802.11?

What is the max distance for 802.11? I know ack timeout is limited to around 400us, but how far is that?

I am looking at a 40-50 mile link and I may not be able to use nstreme or NV2 due to self interference.

bump

Google seems to say around 27 miles, is this correct?

in the olden days, before nstreme was invented, guys in this forum made a 300km link, breaking a world record. it was run on RB532 devices. They had super huge parabolic dish antennas and very good line of sight.

Thanks Normis.

I thought that link used Nstreme?

How did they get around the ack timing limitation? 802.11B?

in that case you leave the ack timeout on dynamic for self determination.

I have had issues with a 24 mile link with v3.30 and v4.17 clients connecting to a 5.x AP with ack set to dynamic on the 5.x AP. I had to set the distance manually before the client would connect.
