Maximum number of VPN connections

HI,

has anybody tested maximum number of simultaneous VPN connections?
I need to deploy Routerboard as VPN terminator, just create VPN profile and do authentication using my Radius server. VPN terminator will have single public IP and one private IP that will VPN users access.

Protocols that I’m considering:
PPTP (with and without encryption)
L2TP
L2TP + IPsec
oVPN

Using routerboards:
RB1100AHx2
CCR1009-8G-*
CCR1016-12*
CCR1036-12*
CCR1036-6*

I have similar implementation with RB1100AHx2 and PPTP(MPPE128) and 170 PPTP users that works stable, but what about 400+ users?
And also if you can help me with ideal Routerboard for 500 PPTP or 500L2TP+IPSec simultaneous connections?
Can you please post your experience with similar implementations?

I have a similar question.

I have a Ubuntu server which terminates about 170 PPTP tunnels, we’ve had to implement a script to restart the VPN service as it simply hangs and stops new connections handshaking.

I do have a couple of CCRs installed in separate DCs in the UK - I might make a config script and see how many I can fire up before it crashes :slight_smile:
