Maybe Winbox for netbooks in the future?

I bought (and a lot of users I know will do it) a netbook (Asus Eee PC): a lot of radio stations having installed routerboards are placed in particular places. It’s more comfortable working using smaller and lighter netbooks than standard notebooks.
All netbooks available has got 1024x600 screen resolution (standard resolution).
Why not make a Winbox version suitable for these smaller screens?

they all come with a virtual resolution so you could make a higher one like me from 800x480 to 800x600 and all it’s fine.

Yes, you can use Winbox like that. But we will see how to improve it, so that it fits.

While I agree that Winbox should accommodate a smaller resolution WSvga is ultra small and hardly used by the dominate majority of techies anymore…

Please don’t effect the use of Winbox for those of us using larger resolutions if anything is changed!

Just my input.

I think it could be just to select to the user the left menu buttons:
-Interfaces
-Wireless
-Bridge
-IP

-Exit

A lot of its aren’t usually used, so everyone could select which buttons show and which ones hide to make the Winbox height smaller.

sounds good, but how about the configuration windows, you still wouldn’t be able to use those because they don’t fit. any other ideas?

maybe small scroll buttons at the top and bottom of menu?

menu we can solve with a “customization” option to remove unused items (maybe). but the windows inside winbox are huge even for big monitors, how can we optimize those?

maybe an option to always pop-up new windows on the left upper top of the winbox-window would make it possible to resize or move those around by yourself.
not the ideal solution but a quick fix.

that would be a problem to people who like to “save session” with a specific layout. Also the windows are mostly larger than 600px even if they are in the corner

which both would be no problem, as the people with the saved session simply do not activate this (optional) feature and if you actually see the window you can move it far out the “border”, resize it and move it back. as i said not an optimal but just for the small percentage of netbook-users a working and fast to implement solution.

I would like to see some better user interface from a blackberry! I run a BES server, and access to my LAN from the Blackberrry is allowed through the BES server, but WebBox is crude on the small screen. I would like to see this web version a little better for the small screens, just a thought!

One big reason is, that If I am on top of a roof, I would rather use my black berry to access the other ends hardware if I need to change something like SSID or a setting, instead of pulling out a notebook.

I understand that the current webbox does this, but its REALLY hard to work with on a small screen. I would like to see auto update quicker then 1 minute as well.

I dont believe netbooks stay at this 600px.
Just spend $100 extra:

You can easily add scrolling for main winbox window, that would solve scrolling for all child popup windows as well and for menu customization and it will solve all problems with small desktop resolutions

There was an announce on http://www.mikrotik.com/pdf/newsletter19.pdf
for new winbox for netbooks.

But how can we download it ?

it’s included in RouterOS v3.27! Just download winbox from http://router-ip-address as usual
