MEMORY IN ROUTERBOARD

I have a RB750GL with 64MB of memory, in version 5.X.X it had approximately 50MB free, in version 6.X.X it has approximately 42MB free, and in version 7.X.X it only has 25MB free, they recommend me to update to the version 7, knowing that I have so little free memory? Thanks for your reply.

Hello
I recommend clean installation through Netinstall. This way, you will gain more resources.
I had some issues with the 32Mb ram devices’ (kernel crash). But I don’t have any 64Mb ram devices’.
Note: Most of my device’s crashes happened after a few hours. You should check your device for an extended time if you updated it.

I doubt that anyone recommended you to upgrade to v7.

Have you tried the 7.4beta4?
I had the same problem with hAP lite (32MB) and version 7.3.1 but after updating to 7.4beta4 all “out of memory” errors are gone.

@massinia

I don’t own an hAP Lite, and I had to give it back to its owner after config.
even my customer sold his hAP and bought an RB2011 :d
The latest version was 7.1.1 at the time of testing.

Why is it not recommended to upgrade to version 7?
Then why did they do it, but is it advisable to use it?

At the moment, there are just a few reasons to use ROS 7.x:

  • you need Wireguard
  • you need OpenVPN using UDP transport (and can bear some limitations)
  • you want a recently developed device for which ROS 6 is not available
  • you want to use Wave 2 wireless standard
  • you want to use Let’s Encrypt certificates on the Mikrotik
  • you want to help Mikrotik with testing

Do a netinstall of v7 long-term release, ensure /system routerboard firmware is also on the same version.

Or you want to use an MBIM-driven 4G USB stick. I had to upgrade my CCR1036 to 7.x to get mine to work.

Someone directly from mikrotik should clarify this.

MT staffers already publicly clarified that v7 requires more RAM than v6 on same device (didn’t go into details though). And that some devices (such as hAP lite) might even have too little RAM (hAP lite has 32MB) to comfortably run v7 (it runs, but doesn’t perform nearly as good as under v6).

Or is there anything else you would like to hear?

More like things someone does not want to hear…
