Memory Size maximum

Hi guys.

I’ve been using Mikrotik 2.9 for quite a while now. I have also configured WebProxy and it has now a cache of aprox 15GB. I have learned before that the cache size is often limited by the amount of RAM in my system. I would like to make a serious solution for a proxy for my LAN. What do u suggest, should a try to make a mikrotik with 2GB RAM (and does it support such amount of RAM??) and use it exlusively for proxy or is it better to use a full linux distro for squid.
I really like the semplicity in witch Mikrotik makes things. That’s why i’m asking.

Thanks a lot.

3.0 (BETA)
Will use 2GB of ram.
Also more than one CPU.

I belive the Web Proxy is now a MikroTik creation.. I don’t know if there is a relation of ram to disk for the proxy server.. Only MT would know.

Although MIkrotik has a pretty "decent" embedded and properitary web caching system in its 3.0 relase, (2.9 is based off an old squid version) - in any event it would be best to use a linux distro as the basis for a web server as a full "squid" box has MORE features and stability than the web proxy found in mikrotik.

No flaming here, just keeping it real.

Mikrotik:

Routing: yes!

Caching/"Proxieing" : ummm, maybe.

Regards.

Thanks guys for the fast replies.
