Recently I’ve stopped using Capsman mode and I’ve installed router v7 and started to use wifiwave2 package on my Ac3 router which is placed in my communication box (nearby the front door) and the speed & signal have increased tremendously which is superb! However, I have another ac2 router which is placed in my Living room. How can I get the best of this situation and get the ac2 working as best as it can? In which mode the ac2 should be working and are there any additional settings to be made in the “Wireless” except from changing the SSID to be the same as the Ac3 one and configure some channel on the 2.4 & 5ghz. I am raising this topic as I am afraid I cannot use the ac2 to get the maximum provided speed from ISP. Currently my plan is for 300 mbps and with this wifiwave2 on ac3 I get them. However, before wifiwave2, while my configuration had included Capsman with both ac2 & ac3 wireless point managed, I’ve barely reached to 100 mbps in Capsman mode. So since now I am receiving the ~280 mbps over wifi from ac3 how can I proceed with further with the configuration of the ac2 for better signal in my Living room?
Any suggestions and guideness will be much appreciated!
hAP ac2 can not run wifiwave2 driver (too small storage being primary reason), so you have to keep using legacy wireless driver. And that one performs quite worse, so don’t expect performance anywhere near what you’re getting from ac3. If you manage to “hit” interference free channels and wireless clients won’t be too far from your ac2, you should be able to get somewhere around 200 (or 250) Mbps.
You didn’t mention how you intend to link ac2 to ac3 … use wire, wireless connection is more or less impossible if any of devices runs wifiwave2 driver (well, it is possible but not transparent … and you want to make it as transparent as possible).
Well using wireless connection doesn’t make sense for me, that’s why I didn’t mention it but yeah they are connected to each other using wire.
So, now I think I don’t have any usage of the ac2 at this point..do you think any other device working as an AP would help me? I know this is mikrotik forum but any suggestion would be welcomed for me.
There are more options coming … hAP ax2 is wifiwave2, and hAP ax3 supersedes hAP ac3.
The “ax” devices might be wifiwave2 only (but here a new CAPsMAN is already available in CLI version)
Depends on buld type and what are requirements. My house has thick brick walls (30 cm thick hollow brick walls with lime/sand wash), around 120m2 per floor. Almost centrally placed Audience gives 5GHz signal strengths exceeding -72dBm (@80MHz channel), which includes places where signal has to travel through 3 walls). House has concrete ceilings and those block 5GHz signal pretty good … so not much interference coming from cellar or first floor.
In the places where WiFi is important (kitchen counter, sofa, …) signal strength exceeds -60dBm and throughput is … satisfying (our tabs and phones are mostly single-chain).
Is there any documentation for this CLI config cuz it seems I cannot find one in the Mikrotik documentation - https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/CAPsMAN ??
On the other hand, are you saying it is only CLI version because on hAP ac3 the capsman is not visible but on hAP ac2 is visible - and they are both running v7.6 which is strange:)
Edit: ac3 is with installed wifiwave2 and that’s why there isn’t capsman available. I guess I will either wait for 7.7 version or 7.8 for this to be fixed or learn how to config it under CLI
