I recently bought two Mikrotik Audience to replace my old wifi- and powerlan-setup.
One of the devices is connected to my switch and over that to a rb4011 router.
I setup multiple ssid’s on that device.
After I tested the ssids and made sure they work and devices get IPs in the networks, I placed the device in wps-sync mode.
I then installed the second device at its new home and booted it in wps-sync mode.
The sync was successful and I can see that the primary wifi is replicated to the second Audience.
But the other ssids (guest-network for example) are not repliacted and do not get repeated by the second Audience.
Did I do something wrong or is this just not possible?
Would I need to use caps-man in that case? I turned it off, because it seemed a bit overkill for my setup.
Or do I have to configure the second audience just like the other one (adding tagged vlans to the bridge, etc)? I did not do any config on the second audience.
My initial plan was to connect one audience to my network and configure all the wifis I need (they use different vlans and subnets).
After that I wanted to setup the second audience as a mesh-node to increase the wifi-range for all the wifis.
Is that not the usecase of the audience?
Or is that just technically not possible?
Would I have to configure the additional wifis myself on the second audience and then it would work?
I currently use powerline to connect a second AP to my network, but powerline is rather unstable for me, which is why I opted for a mesh-solution.
Does anybody know what the Audience actually does in the background when you set it up for wps sync?
I did a reset on the second audience and configured it a little afterwards.
Then I turned it of and turned it on again with the wps button pressed.
It connected successfully to the first Audience, but after that you cannot connect to it anymore.
Attached a cable to it and tried to connect, but it does not answer anymore.
The main ssid gets repliacted and is meshed, but all other are still ignored.
So I have to repeat my question: is that simply not possible?
Setting up multiple ssids on one audience and then have them all meshed on a second one?
Does anybody know that?
You need to do it manually if you want more sophisticated config.
And if you have only two units, there is no actual need for mesh at all - a wireless bridge on third radios will do.
Hi @xvo,
thanks for answering.
What do you mean by “a wireless brigde”?
I tried to do a setup in repeater mode with the third radio, but that did not work at all sadly.
It means simple AP mode on one audience and client mode on other which connects them together like you used cable, but instead using the extra 5ghz radio.
Than you can do whatever you want with remaining radios, best would be capsman ofc, you can do guest networks and whatever you want with it.
