Metal5SHPn 1x1 MIMO, how can?

Dear,

I have a doubt regarding the MIMO Metal5SHPn feature. In datsheet is informed that the wireless interface is “Wireless Built-in 5GHz 802.11a/n 1x1 MIMO”.

The main doubt is that MIMO is characterized by having multiple inputs and multiple outputs. Being a 1x1 it’s a SISO system.

How can you be a 1X1 MIMO?

Sincerely,

Pretty sure that was an editorial oversight in the brochure, though it’s a pedantic distinction that really shouldn’t bother you any more than someone failing to call a rectangle a square when it is, indeed, square.

MIMO, being part of the 802.11n spec calls for the support of spatial diversity (MIMO), though it does not mandate actual implementation. So, the description of 1x1 MIMO is just as accurate as saying SISO.

As long as the number of Tx/Rx chains are specified, the use of MIMO is accurate. After all, we don’t have DIDO, TITO, QIQO (is that quad or quint?).

Hope this helps!
