Metarouter on hEX PoE

I have a brand new hEX PoE router running 6.46.4. I am trying to get the Metarouter working on it. Even if I have a completely blank config, and I create a metarouter, it just sits at the Booting stage.
I have tried creating the default setting of 24MB Memory and no disk, and also 32MB Mem with a 4MB disk. neither boot.
This config works fine on a RB951UI-2HnD. Am I missing something?

In answer to my own question:

Currently MetaRouter can be used on

RB400, RB700 series except models with SPI flash, RB900 series except models with SPI flash, RB2011 boards
Listed PPC boards: RB1000, RB1100, RB1100AH and RB800.

Unfortunately the hEX PoE is one of the SPI Flash varieties, so can not run it.
