MF 823 LTE USB Modem

Hi all,

Just want to ask if anyone made the MF 823 work on RouterBoard?
I can detect the device on the LTE interface and I’ve also tried PPP emulation but I can’t get an internet connection.
I’m using the 6.8rc1 version of the OS.

Thanks.

It is possible to bind with dhcp server in modem and ping it. It’s not possible to scan lte.

I have working MF823 on RouterBoard RB751 - on my request driver was tested and added by Mikrotik team.
You need to add DHCP client on lte1 interface. When it will be done, You will get access to ZTE web interface on 192.168.0.1. There is no configuration at Mikrotik side. All configuration for internet access need to be done directly at ZTE web interface. Also add default route to lte1 interface; that’s all. MF823 works brilliant at Mikrotik.

Thanks for your replies.

@dziku I’ll try that out and see if it works. I’ll give you feedback once I’ve tested it.

Hi guys,

Here are some screenshots regarding the issue. First is the screenshot of the web config.
I got this ZTE Modem from our local ISP maybe they’ve disabled the web interface of the modem?
The second screenshot shows the config of RB751u.

Thanks.

also don’t forget to add a NAT (masquerade rule with out interface lte1) rule so you could access the LTE modems webpage.

Hi Uldis,

I have tried that setup but I can’t access the ZTE webpage either.
I also tried connecting the modem directly to my desktop but still I can’t see the webpage.

I tried accessing this url:

http://192.168.0.1/goform/goform_set_cmd_process?goformId=CONNECT_NETWORK

and it returned a “Success” message in json format.

Can somebody post a screenshot of the ZTE web config page?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

I’ve managed to make the device work.

I just issued this command in the url then it worked.

http://192.168.0.1/goform/goform_set_cmd_process?goformId=SET_CONNECTION_MODE&ConnectionMode=auto_dial

Thanks for the help that you have provided.

Till next time.

Hello, guys.
plz tell me - how can I properly connect ZTE MF823 on RB951Ui-2HnD?
I tried to connect modem through a standard usb cable on powered off RB, but lte interface doesn’t appear in Interfaces. May be some power loss or RB951Ui-2HnD doesn’t have enough power on usb? or I do something wrong? may be some of you can tell me full instruction for connecting this usb modem?

I can confirm that the standard power supply (800mA) is not enough for ZTE MF823 on RB951Ui-2HnD, I had to use the power supply from 750UP (2500mA) with it all ok.

Dear Sirs,
After your post, I finally managed to configure the LTE card… Now I would try to send SMS using the RB2011, directly connected to ZTE MF8230, and NOT by using the ZTE software… Is it possible? The strange thing is that the ZTE card MF was immediately recognized by mikrotik as LTE interface but not via USB (though it was connected by micro-USB: in serial port is not recognized) .. Could you help me?

Thank you so much for saying i must add a dhcp client on the interface.

I have been searching for a good hour now and no where does it say to add a dhcp client to the interface.

Works like a charm now.

I just stumbled on this post trying to setup this modem. A couple of things I would add

  • you need to go to System->Ports->Firmware and untick Ignore Direct IP Modem
  • a reboot might be required after doing that.
  • you should make your subnet something other than 192.168.0.x as that is what the modem uses
  • you can then access the modem’s webpage at 192.168.0.1
