micro-sd

If I want to store my log on my Micro-sd card or I want to save files to it from scripting what is the path name ?

So from winbox system/logging/disc what do I put in filename to get it on the micro-sd card ?

Yes i understand it will wear out the sd card..

Also yes, I have formatted the card, it shows in the file list

AFAIK only User Manager and Web Proxy can use stores on external drives.

!???!?!?!?

what ?

Nooooooooo…

I cant keep firewall address lists for any time beyond a reboot ?!??!
I cant keep logs internal to the box on a sd card ?
I cant read/write anything from a script to a sd card ?!?!

omfg… The whole reason I bought a 450G was to do this :frowning:

DD-WRT and Open-WRT this is just normal.. I cant believe it…

If this is true then Mikrotik is SADLY lacking in even basic functionality.

Im stunned…

ok then… writing to NAND is obviously not a good idea, so there is no way to keep a system log beyond a reboot without using some outside computer to do SNMP or logging ?

I am just amazed… If this is true, man am I going to be vocal about this being added as a new feature. This cant be very hard to add. You just add /micro-sd/ to your file path.

wow im actually upset…

You can store logs on the sd card.

how ?

how ?

Hmmmmmmmmmm…

That was the first thing i tried. I assumed it was not working as no files were created in the micro-sd directory. I looked with ftp and with winbox. Nothing.

No logging file is created in the micro-sd directory.

I can log in via FTP and see the directory, place files in it, I can see the files I place in the micro-sd directory from winbox files but No logging files.

No logging files appear anywhere. It does however seem to retain the log between reboots ?

If I omit the micro-sd path I do see logging files in the main NAND file listings.

Ummm… are they going on the SD or not ???

SO anywhere I can specify a file, I can specify a path to the micro-sd directory ?

This seemed logical. Whats weird is that no files appear in any listings…

I will have to watch free space and see if some is being used by these invisible files.

why in the world would you need to put firewall rules on an SD card  ?

Hahahaha…

Well… If you have rules that detect bad guys and you add them to a “bad guys” address list and it reaches a large number of these bad guys, it would be a shame to just dump all that acquired data on a reboot.

However, being a newbie, I suppose thats a bad idea to read/write firewall address lists from a SD card because of speed ?

I understand I would be wearing out the SD card..

I large number of fun firewall rules would keep list of IP addresses and its a shame to dump these each time you reboot.

Much like the logging. Good to keep this data around.

YES I understand I could do all this and more if I set up another computer to SNMP and do firewall stuff… But hey, these are ruff economic times and I just dont want to deal with another computer.

AND…

I was stupid and did not realize that I needed VERY specific MicroSD cards for my RB450G. It was clear that my WallMart special PNY 2GB was NOT working correctly. It was weird, I could FTP to and from it with no problem at fairly good speeds. I dropped 1GB in and out of it… About then my RB450G started rebooting. After much soul searching I determined it was the *^%#$@% MicroSD card.. ( sigh )

So its going to be a bit before I can retest logging on a MicroSD card cuz the one I got now causes rebooting.. Must get new one…

Anyone have a CHEAP card I can get that is known to work on the RB450G ? The cheapest one on the known good list is USD$20 + shipping.. Some well known one that you can get anywhere would be good.

nothing gets dumped on reboot, what makes you think that?

My address lists clear each time…

They are dynamic and I add them for a 14d period…

This is dumped each time.. I suppose I could add them without a timeout, but then I would need to purge or clean them up somehow..

Well if its a dynamic entry and you say 14days, its only good till reboot..

I know, I know…

I need to run this on a hard drive based RouterOS… Then all my issues would be solved…

BUT i cant afford that right now…
