I have clients that need windows updates to run (unfortunately!!). I am using a tranparent proxy setup with no rules to block caching of any items.
I do block virus ports that were provided via scripts on the WiKi ( http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Protecting_your_customers ) . Is there any sites that I should not cache? I have spoken to Microsoft… and now I could use some professional advice please!!
The Direct Access list is used when you are working with parent proxies! You deny caching of certain web sites in the Cache menu. Is there someone else who can assist?
Is the issue Mikrotik’s or Microsoft’s? I haven’t tried squid+ipfilter against windowsupdate recently. I can’t imagine Microsoft breaking every transparent proxy system out there - the repercussions would be huge.. Not that Microsoft would care…
I had a similar problem earlier similar to your case, I notice it can’t seems to process any SSL leading webpages.
The trick was … I upgraded my RouterOS to the latest 2.9.38 and initialised the entire box configuration to factory default reconfigured all the setting bak again manually and it worked!
I guess it must be a bug some how when we upgrade the RouterOS from a lower version to a next higher version before first exporting out the configuration scripts and re-import back the scripts configuration should does the trick!
My problem is now solved and I have learned from this little buggy problem in RouterOS version upgrade.
