Microtik Router for basic login screen (Cafeteria) ?

Hi, my friend is opening a new cafeteria and he wants me to sponsor the free 30 mins Wifi Things in his cafeteria.

What would the the cheapest way to go for this ?

Requirements -

  1. Custom Login Screen with logo and name
  2. 30 minutes or 1 hour or 2 hour coupon generation
  3. Monitor bandwidth and set caps for each coupon.

Level 5 Routerboard somenthing like RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN
and from MT Wiki read User Manager in a Hotspot scenario.

All with Mikrotik ciao Cetalfio

Unless you’re going to have more than 200 hotspot users, no need for L5 License, a RB951Ui-2HnD will also suit your needs.

what’s the internet uplink bandwidth?

Is it better to use hotspot feature for around 100 devices and 1mbps upload speed? Or have it with wpa2 password? With wpa2 users dont get disconnected when idle and they dont have to always login when come back. But the problem maybe arise that their devices are always using the internet even in standby mode

Okay so get one of this, RB951Ui-2HnD
Uplink, I will give a 4Mbps account to this friend.

So, RB951Ui-2HnD can do everything ?

Custom login page, coupon generation, specified time limit for each account ?
Or again, we have to integrate Radius server and all ?

You have to setup radius too (user-manager).

For coupon generation you will have to use an external script that generates them and update via api the user-manager.

so is it better to use hotspot login (1 username and password for all) for better bandwidth saving? or wpa2 password ?
with wpa2 devices can stay connected and use resources as long they are in range. with hotspot they have an idle timeoutso after 02min they get out!
anyone had experience with that case?

Having an open SSID (hotspot) or using WPA2-PEAP for example won’t impact bandwidth savings.

having 1 user with 1pass will result on people leeching in no time.
