I have been given a new unused mikrotik 2shpn by a friend (it was his late fathers). It was still in the wrapping and hadn’t even been opened so it is 100% new.
I am having trouble configuring the device. I followed the quick connect and the winbox guides but i am still unable to connect. In winbox it briefly showed the IP address as 192.168.255.1 (not the default 192.168.88.1 as listed). Now the IP address is shown as 0.0.0.0. When I try to connect with the default login details i get the error “wrong username or password”. Have the default login details changed?
I’ve also tried to reset the device using instructions on the wiki pages but the results are still the same. I also noticed the device appears to reset itself while i was googling for help. It will beep, the LED (only the bottom one is lit) will go off, then it will beep, LED will come on and beep again. Is this normal?
Hold this button during boot time until LED light starts flashing, release the button to reset RouterOS configuration
(total 5 seconds)
Keep holding for 5 more seconds, LED turns solid, release now to turn on CAPs mode (total 10 seconds)
Or Keep holding the button for 5 more seconds until until LED turns off, then release it to make the RouterBOARD
look for Netinstall servers (total 15 seconds)
Thank you for the help. I have just finished reinstalling routerOS via netinstall.
On another note, is there a basic/simple mode to the software? I was hoping that if it was fairly simple I could use it to connect to a campsites to wifi from my pitch when i go touring.
