Mikrotik and VDSL Connection in Germany

Hi,

i need to connect a Mikrotik 850Gx2 with german VDSL connection with Annex J via PPPOE connection. Is it possible to get mikrotik connected to ‘any’ VDSL Annex J modem with PPPOE connection like .. for example with Annex B?

is it like… i enter user: 81747372734732742#t-online.de
pass.. as it is…

… or?

thank you for your help

korg

The ethernet-side of the VDSL modem is not affected by the Annex type. That is a line-side attribute.
You only need to get a compatible modem (Annex J in your case) that can be put in bridge mode to pass-through
the PPPoE, and on the MikroTik you just configure a PPPoE interface. Depending on your provider, you may also
need to configure a VLAN tag. It can also be that you can do this in the modem, so the router does not have to
insert it.

Thanks a lot…

Do you know maybe does T COM Deutschland uses VLAN 7 resp. do i need to set it up manualy in the MT or does the VDSL Modem does that?

I don’t know about that. I am in the Netherlands and here the VLAN is 6.
It can be inserted by the MikroTik (just define a VLAN interface like ether1.vlan6 and attach it to ether1 and use tag 6).
You could do that for VLAN 7 the same way.
However, I use a Draytek Vigor 130 modem and it can do the VLAN tag insertion itself (just configure it in the web
config interface) so I did that and don’t use tagging in the MikroTik.
I don’t know what your modem can do, you have to check that yourself.

Again.. many thanks!

I tried vdsl vectoring pppoe connection with routers that do not really support pppoe passthrough. they use bridge-mode for that instead. though i found a binary image of pppoe-relay on one of the modems i was testing (might pppoe-relay ve trouble with vlan? coz they use bridging).

Infact i wasnt able to perfom any pppoe-client connection at tcom vdsl via mikrotik. I already opened a thread for that here.

I am interested to see whether you are successful with a pppoe connection at tcom vdsl. Coz i am somehow see an issue with routeros there. I tested it with other soho routers behind the modems and it alwas was runing, they always had been able to achieve a pppoe connection through the modem flawless.

It would be a pity if routeros is not able to use pppoe properly coz i ve a lot of customers rolled out with non vdsl installations which soon ll be upgraded. Then i guess i ve to switch to ubiquity or cisco asa.

Hi Korg,
does your MT work with Telekom? how did you define the user name?

Hi,

sorry for a late answer… i did not manage to have it operational. i have used the telekom router and have put dhcp client on a port.

HI,

i use the ZyXel VMG1312-B30A. If you keep the default Zyxelconfig you dont need to use vlans on your mirkotik for internet. Just keep default pppoe settings with 1492 MTU. If you need to connect to 1und1 add a capital “H” in front of your Username if you have a Telekomanschluss.

Iam pretty sure that the ZyXel VMG1312-B10A will not work with Telekom on any router. At least in NRW. Tested on multiple VDSLconnections
