MIkrotik app on Android

Need some beginner’s help here please. I can access my Haplite using Winbox from my laptop. When I run the ‘Mikrotik Home’ app it does not ‘discover’ the router. Also if I use the same Winbox access credentials given by my ISP I cannot connect to the router.

Mikrotik has two Android App`s
“Mikrotik Home” and “Mikrotik Pro”

Try the “Mikrotik Pro” app

And unless your management access is wide open from the public side, make sure you are connected to the network considered as Lan.
Internal wifi connected to your haplite device e.g.

Conny - ‘Pro’ was the one that would not CONNECT, so I tried ‘Home’ to make sure it could ‘see’ the router - which it could not. I assume this indicates a basic problem?

holvoetn - “unless your management access is wide open from the public side, make sure you are connected to the network considered as Lan.
Internal wifi connected to your haplite device e.g.” Not too sure what that means , but does the fact that I can connect from my laptop on Winbox
mean all is ok there?

If your android device is connected to the same network as your laptop, then it should work.

Laptop was able to connect to the Router via the same Wireless-Connection?

lol @holvoetn was quicker =)

Yes - therein lies the query - why not? Is there some special router setting required for mobile access as opposed to Windows?

Should be the same winbox port on the same network.
Do you get any error in the app ?
At the same time when you are trying, is something visible in the log of the router when looking via winbox ?

Hmmmmm…
Did you try connecting to the Device via IP-Address AND via MAC-Address?

No to MAC and IP and I am away from the router for a few days so cannot check router log. ‘On ice’ until next year?

Good idea…

Happy Holiday and Guten Rutsch =)

Any chance you have some sort of personal firewall on your Android phone? Your phone needs to be able to receive an L2/L3 broadcast to UDP-5678 in order to discover your router.

Android app and Winbox use identical way to connect. If they both are connected to the same WiFi, they both must be able to connect to the same Router IP

Thanks both - I am not able to ‘visit’ the router for a while to check further.

The access via winbox and none via the app is puzzling indeed. Neither an Android phone nor an Android tablet can access. The phone runs Avast mobile but nothing on the tablet while winbox on a laptop goes straight in.

I can’t speak for the tablet but Avast mobile is a security product and it very likely has a firewall. I’d turn Avast off and see if it works.

Will do, but as I said the tablet has nothing and cannot access.

@Normis ( if you email me your #, I can text next time  )

Okay riddle me this, why can I access my AP (capac) over wifi, and get internet over the virtual WLAN (and thus good working wifi connection) and then access the router (using mt app to config) using the IP address of the Virtual WLAN:PORT, but cannot reach the Router (to config) If I Use the MAC Address of the same virtual WLAN.?

{Not sure if this is related to the android issue described about access to the device but thought it may prove useful}
