Mikrotik as an inexpensive dual WAN router w/ 4G backup

Hi All,

I’m looking to start using Mikrotik devices (such as the RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN and RB750UP) to provide a dual-wan router/firewall for use at branch offices. I also need to have the ability to plug a USB 4G/3G modem into it and use that in the event that the wired connection(s) go down.

Just wondering if I’m on the right track here with the RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN and RB750UP. I’m going to purchase one of each for some testing and wanted to make sure my choices are correct before i do so.

Also is there a list somewhere of which USB 3G/4G modems are supported? I’ve got a Sierra 320U (312U Huawei E398 K5005) which seems to have pretty good linux/BSD support, will this work?

i suggest you the RB951ui-2hnd it has the same cpu ram and wifi of rb2011uias-2hnd-in but much more affordable

rb2011 only if you need the additional 5 port gigabit switch and the more robust presence

Hello,

Does anyone has a list of supported USB (3/4G) modems?

It seems to be a very well kept secret, even though it should attract some good sales.
Go figure…

Thanks.

not secret, on mikrotik we share

@chechito thank you very much. Really appreciate it.

I was sarcastic because i was not able to find that list.

They should do better with their documentation.

Thanks!
