Mikrotik as OVPN server

Hi,

Is it possible to use Mikrotik as OVPN server with only certificates, so it doesnt require for a user to type in username & password? I need this because we are moving the whole network from DD-WRT’s to RoS. We have a DD-WRT as a OpenVPN server atm and it doesnt require a user to have a username and password, only working certificate. I know it’s a larger security risk but the company management demands this solution.

No it is not possible.

I’m crying, but tnx for answer.

If you want to run RouterOS and OVPN with more features, then set up metarouter which runs openwrt image and run ovpn server there:

Nice, havent thought of that, ty. Will report back after the weekend of testing and installing

Just one more thing. Will there be any future version of RoS that will support OVPN with only certificate authentication?

Not in a near future.

Gave up on OVPN in Mikrotik. USing IPSEC tunnels with certificates instead.

Is there any way you can push the routes through RoS OVPN server to client? PPTP works great while OVPN does not push the routes by default. ANy ideas?

I spent some time playing w/ the OVPN functionality in MT and found it to be too crippled to be useful. It’s probably nice for a simple point to point VPN, but if you are looking for a VPN system for users, I think you are better off setting up a Linux server (or VM) and running OpenVPN or better yet the commercial OpenVPN-AS system. Commercial licenses are by concurrent connection and are very inexpensive and the commercial product had a lot of nice functionality not present in the free version.
