Mikrotik Car Charger

Hi,

I want to put a routerboard in my car with 3g dongle.

Has anyone done this before, if so what kind of charger/power plug can I buy?

just directly connect the car cigarette lighter to routerboard. car already outputs 12V which is good for the RB. all you need is a cigarette plug to routerboard plug adapter.

Thanks for the response.

I thought so.

Any idea of the type of connector the RB needs, size or model?

I used the cable from a broken power supply and attached it to a cigarette plug.

Does it work fine?? It may be necessary to regulate the voltage and filter the power for noise. When the car is running the voltage is incremented and there might be voltage spikes, even less that 12V on the car output sometimes. (That could damage the board in the long run) The noise could specially affect the funcionality of RF components. It might be wise to use a car 12V power supply that has enough current for the Microtik you are using and just don’t input the raw power output from the car. (A buck boost converter for example might be very handy for automobile applications)

Works fine, have used a RB411 for years in my car at work.
