I wanted to share an update on my unusual experience with the MikroTik Cloud Router (CCR2116-12G-4S+).
I’ve been dealing with a strange issue where, after configuring the router, it would go down after a few hours or days, wiping the configuration. Over time, things got even worse, the router started flapping all ports like crazy. No matter what was plugged in, the ports would continuously go Up and Down, Up and Down, with no stability whatsoever.
What I Tried Over Two Weeks:
Changed the cables…
Firmware Downgrade – Rolled back step by step to v7.8 (couldn’t go lower).
Interface Adjustments – Played around with speed settings, configurations, and troubleshooting.
Loopback Test – Connected ether1 to ether2—and sure enough, the ports still flapped.
After exhausting all troubleshooting steps, I reached out to MikroTik Support. They acknowledged the issue and apologized for the trouble this caused me and my client. Their final recommendation? Send the router back for repair or replacement.

If you’re dealing with flapping ports, there’s a 99% chance it’s a hardware fault.
