I recently purchased a MikroTik CRS309-1G-8S+IN. Is there some setup needed to get the PoE input to work? I have a switch capable of af/at and I am plugged into an port capable of af/at. The switch is capable of 192W and only using about 5W, so that isn’t an issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Update to this ‘Issue’ PoE in as detailed in the MikroTik wiki (https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:PoE-In) states that ‘you have to use the MikroTik Gigabit PoE injector’. This is unfortunate but it is what it is. I just wish it was more clearly displayed in the product advertising.
IMO a big part of the 802.3af/at standards is to have a consistent standard across all brands, so that situations such as this could be avoided…I could be wrong.
I would take what the model-specific documentation says
https://mikrotik.com/product/crs309_1g_8s_in
over a more general wiki page.
Specs say it’s 802.3af/at in, so I would expect it to work. However, that page also says max power is 17W “without attachments” and max power for 802.3af is 15W so surely this switch isn’t 802.3af powerable, only 802.3at.
If anyone else has had problems doing this, they haven’t posted here about it. The only other place I’ve seen a complaint is a comment on the ServeTheHome review of this switch.
