MikroTik Groove 52HPn Antenna

Hi everybody,

I have one MikroTik Groove 52HPn alone, can I use this device without its antenna for use in the home area? Does it have a built-in antenna?

NO, you need to have an antenna, without one, even if the radios are are low power, you risk to fry the RF amplifier.
It doesn’t need AFAIK to be a “special” antenna, it can be a short “rubber ducky” one, as long as it has the right connector.

Oh, ok, Thank you for let me know.
I bought these ones from Amazon:
I hope these work.

and these connectors:

Аnd one more thing, the groove have a level 3 license - no AP Bridge mode.

Do you mean it can not be useful for receiving WiFi signals?

Do you mean it can not be useful for receiving WiFi signals?

No, It means that It cannot be used in “generic” AP mode or as multi-point link.
Mikrotik levels of licenses are not very clearly explained and have some unusual limitations but they are documented:
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:License#License_Levels

NO, Its License level is 4 due to this page:

Yep, It depends on the specific model the plain 52
https://mikrotik.com/product/RBGroove52HPnr2
is level 3
The 52 A and GA

https://mikrotik.com/product/RBGrooveGA-52HPacn
have level 4
I think we can say that the good Mikrotik guys are as good at avoiding confusion with devices names as they are at writing clear documentation for their operating systems.

You wrote that the model is RBGroove52HPn, not RBGrooveA-52HPn/r2/!

Yes, You are right, I checked my License level and saw it is 3.

Can I use Virtual AP on my device to let other devices use my LAN?

Thank you.

Nope. License level 3 means your device can’t be AP. Period. The closest to being AP is (legacy) mode bridge which only allows single station connected in station-bridge mode. These both modes are MT specific, so you almost definitely can’t make a random device to connect in this mode.
