Our company recently purchased Mikrotik hAP ac² router.
It’s our first router from Mikrotik. We decided to make a sample set up with the router and two computers connected through lan ports or wifi AP.
But we’ve experienced issues during our first attempt to configure it.
The major issue is that we can’t establish a connection between computers connected to the router (we’ve tried both wifi AP and ethernet lan ports).
Could you please give a hint about what we’ve possibly made wrong?
@IgorTs, is it a problem between wireless and cable or are both PCs connected to the router via cable?
In the latter case there normally should be no problem.
Of course you have to check the IPs of the two PCs. Are they static assigned (ie. manually defined) or dynamically assigned from a DHCP server?
Why would your company purchase IT equipment with no knowledge of how to configure it.
Does said company actually have an IT or networking department or representative.
Who recommended the purchase?
It may be better for the company (if there really is one) and their lack of expertise to get a more consumer oriented device.
What are the use cases
- groups of users
- types of devices users have at their disposal
-services they need
-limitations to be imposed
-ISP connection(s) types and speeds
-other networking equipment switches etc…
A basic needs analysis that is normally done before any equipment is purchased by a ‘real’ company.
I think there is a mismatch between LAN-IP (ie the local network) and the IP of the router.
The IP of the router has to be changed so that it becomes part of the LAN. This is not an easy task for Average Joe, it is rather a task for an admin.
All depends on your configuration !!!
E.G.: If you used the standard “Home AP Dual” then ether1 will be the WAN connection.
And as such plugging a PC in ether1 will not make that PC reachable from eterrnet nor from wifi, and will not allow that PC to connect to anything in or behind the router.
To work as a standalone unit, like in your test setup, then “Home AP dual” must have been choosen. CPE might work as well if set to router. At least you need a setup with a DHCP server so your devices get an IP address. (If not set manually, but you probably let those PC’s on their default network working.)
