Hi All,
I own MikroTik hAP ac lite, that I have set as a wifi repeater.
Now, I wonder what should be the easiest way to change settings, in case I need to change the internet provider (new AP, with new SSID and password).
Do I need to reset-config and connect to device via LAN cable every time I have to do a change, or there is another, more easier for me way?
Why a reset? The only difference could be security/SSID (in regards to using a repeater), that does not require a reset. That can be performed on the ISP supplied modem/router as well.
I want to use the repeater when I am away from home (vacation, trips etc) and usually than I have no access to ISP supplied AP.
Maybe using the MikroTik as the dedicated wifi extenders, that they sell on the market, where the user is accessing the device via wifi, would be the best option for me to go for.
How would it be possible to connect and change settings (new SSID/pass) on the repeater, via wifi, without LAN cable?
You can still connect to the repeater wirelessly. Only use MAC to connect.
But assuming you don’t change more often your provider than once a year it doesn’t sound like a big problem.
Alternatively you might want to consider using WPS (as most repeaters do).
You use it at home as a repeater but want to use the same SSID as home when you are somewhere else ?
Sounds like a road warrior config to me.
Which radio do you use to make the uplink ?
Set that one in station mode.
Use connect list for various foreign SSIDs.
Use the other radio for connection to your devices.
Since your device has 2 radios, you can always connect to change config ( add SSID and security params to connect to)
( unlike typical road warrior config with map or map lite which only has one radio).
