MikroTik hardware setup advice needed.

I’m new to MikroTik and seeking advice on hardware selection.

Objective: Connect 1x GbE ISP uplink and 10x GbE connections within my house (including 2 access points to cover two floors).

My hardware considerations: 1x RB4011iGS+RM router; 2x cAP ac access points (or cAP ax if budget allows); 2x RBGPOE units to power the access points.

In essence, I’m looking for a wired GbE router with two access points (PoE powered since AC isn’t feasible), and an additional 8 wired clients.

Do I need extra power bricks or any other components?

Is there an SFP-to-GbE module available to connect to the ISP media converter? (Considering I need all 10 ports for connectivity.)

Is a controller necessary to manage the mentioned components? (I have prior experience with Ubiquiti.)

Are there alternative hardware combinations worth considering?

I would skip the RB4011 and get the RB5009 it will have a longer shelf life and has less quirks then the RB4011.

That was my initial thinking as well until I saw the 10-port requirement.
2 APs and 8 wired clients.

Unless at least 3 wired clients are in the same subnet and can be connected using a simple switch ?

SFP to GbE is no problem:
S-RJ01 for up to 1Gb
S+RJ10 for up to 10Gb

If you consider the POE version of RB5009, it will “just” be insufficient for powering cAP AC (depends on the load), probably not strong enough for cAP AX (it has higher power requirements) since RB5009Pr can only provide 20.16W on a single port when using 48V power brick (cAP AC goes to 24W, cAP AX goes to 28W).

You also don’t need to buy separate injectors as the cap acs come with them (and a power supply)

Same for cAP AX.

Also:
for 2 APs, don’t bother with a controller. Set them up manually, much easier unless you REALLY want to learn !
In the latter case, be aware you can not mix wifiwave2 device with legacy wifi devices (so 2x cAP AX, or 2x cAP AC, no mix or forget about the controller).

I would still get the RB5009 and a small managed switch, decent cheap ones available.

Buying an RB4011 is like buying a 2015 car new… makes no sense.

Fully agree there.
I have RB5009 at home and with a client. Truly great devices for size, price, … whatever.
