I’ve had a Mikrotik hEX RB750Gr3 5-port Ethernet Gigabit Router for almost 2 years (purchase August 23, 2017) without any issues. These past couple of days it started randomly dropping my local lan connections. It seems to happen every 5 minutes or less. Connection is re-established almost immediately but if I’m doing any file transfers, streaming, etc it stops them and i have to restart the transfer. It’s impossible to transfer larger files. I can’t even stream music from my music server for more than a few minutes since it drops the connection. I tried updating to the v6.44.3 firmware but it didn’t resolve anything. Is the router experiencing a hardware failure and needs replacing or is there something else i can do?
The first step I would try myself would be to replace the power adaptor by any suitable one which fits the input range of voltage of the hEX and required power (watts) but has been in operation for shorter time. The higher the voltage the less amps you need to get the same watts (P[W]=U[V]×I[A]). The reason is that the electrolytic capacitors in these switching power supplies often dry and lose capacity, which causes the output voltage under load to react on power consumption spikes, which in turn causes weird glitches in router operation.
