MikroTik hEX S Router as replacememt for fiber router

I am basic user who has fiber connection at home. The device connects to fiber and outputs an RJ45 connection. Normally to set it up, i had to give PPPoE credentials as WAN interface parameters and it worked. So i would like to know would the above Miktotik router be able to replace this device? and then i can use a gigabit switch as i have LAN connection in each room.

Not aware that the hex has a fiber input???

@anav
Hex S has SFP port.

@rizwan
What’s the speed of your fiber connection ?
Hex S might not be able to handle wirespeed depending on what’s being sent through.

Yeah but thats for 1gig connections, whats the point if you have 1gig ethernet cable… 1gig=1gig or close enough.

The point is getting rid of ISP’s ONT box.

Which is not likely to happen due to Mikrotik’s poor support for various SFP modules which are not plain ethernet optical SFPs (e.g. GPON modules).

An ont is a modem, it cannot be replaced by a router, i suspect that the device needing replacing is the device after the ONT…

Yes, you can.
You need to purchase a “PON Stick”, which is a modem in the shape of SFP/SFP+. A well-known manufacturer is http://www.natywish.com/ .
