Someone more knowledgeable can you explain why this is happening or this is absolutely normal?
I am owning a Mikrotik hex S it says:
PoE-out
Details
PoE-out ports Ether5
PoE out Passive PoE up to 57V
Max out per port output (input 18-30 V) 500 mA
Max out per port output (input 30-57 V) 500 mA
Max total out (A) 500 mA
Well in that case should power up my Ubiquiti U6-LR right ?
Here is the link for it Ubiquiti U6-LR
Hardware
Networking interface (1) GbE RJ45 port
Management interface Ethernet
Bluetooth
Power method PoE+, passive PoE (48V)
Power supply UniFi PoE switch
48V, 0.5A PoE adapter (Not included)
Supported voltage range 44—57V DC
Scenario:
When I plug the eth cable without Ubiquiti’s power it’s not visible and cannot detect it
Once I put the original Ubiquiti power and than plug the cable to Mikrotik all is fine.
“Passive” means it doesn’t detect when power is wanted and apply it for you; it requires that you decide when power is wanted on a given port and then turn it on.
And then be sure not to plug in something that doesn’t want PoE into that same port later!
@sadjoe
What are you using to power the hex S?
(it is sold with a 24 V 1.2A power adapter that clearly won’t be able to bring enough voltage nor current to the - passive - PoE port).
The expected (max) power consumption of the hex S is 24 W.
The expected (max) power consumption of the Ubiquity U6 LR is 16.5 W.
You need a power adapter @ 48 V (or even a few volts more) with more than 40.5 W power, i.e. at least 40.5/48=0.85 A.
This is the only thing that will plug/require a PoE. So than I am asking if it’s passive how to enabled this to make it works?
If it’s possible of course.
I am using the original power adapter for this U-POE-at Ubiquiti U-POE-at
Most probably I will buy a new power for Mikrotik and I will power up itself + Ubiquiti via PoE
I was looking into the table provided by Mikrotik.
So Mikrotik 48POW or Mikrotik 48V2A96W (better than 48POW) - https://mikrotik.com/product/48v2a96w
P.S.
This is what I get with healt print. I cannot see current wats.. don’t know why
> system health print
Columns: NAME, VALUE, TYPE
# NAME VALUE TYPE
0 voltage 24.1 V
1 temperature 53 C
I don’t think that Watts are shown there on the hex or hex S, it depends on the model, but I suspect (though as often happens Mikrotik docs are vague) that the Watts value is only shown on a few selected higher end models.
But now you are powering It at 24V?
