Mikrotik is Awesome.

Really, every day that goes by we find another reason to love the mikrotiks more. We have 3 RB1100’s now, and a 750G. LOVE THEM. They are doing well, but I can see a need for more CPU power in the near future. We run them in a datacenter environment that’s pushing around 100 M/bit steady traffic.

Is there any word of a rb1100 type unit with more ports and more cpu power in the near future?

Anyone have recommendations for 3rd party hardware that runs the tik OS?

For something stock you can simply order, Dell PE210s with Intel gig NICs work well for me. Works out of the box, but you have to install the OS while removing the hdd from the server. Once installed it boots fine.

So you run the tik OS off the HD? Thats the one thing I dont like. Even though newer HD’s rarely fail, I would feel better running off some sort of solid state media.

Get a CF to SATA converter and use that instead of the hdd.

Rb1100 should be fine with 100Mbit/s.

We use rb1100ah, rb1000. And there is a faster
board announced. We avoid pc hardware as you’re never
sure the next ROS runs. Booting a rb is much faster
than any pc based hw.
And when it comes to USV usage you see a RB running
much longer on battery than a PC.

Its not all about speed …
