Mikrotik Knot and standart LTE sim card

Hi,

Is it possible to run standard LTE sim card ( from T-mobile ) on RB924i-2nD-BT5&BG77?

I have successfully configured NB-IoT, but the bandwidth is insufficient, so I need standard LTE card like I am using in wAP for example, is it gonna work?

The SIM may (or may not) work…but using a different SIM/account isn’t going to change the max speed… KNOT still only supports NB2 (aka NB-IoT) or Cat-M1 (aka LTE-M1) modes, which is what limited speed. If using NB2, that’s slower than Cat-M. But even if you have Cat-M link it maxes a 1Mb/s, but that’s better than few dozen kb/s from NB2… Check if your using LTE-M1/Cat-M1 and/or see if your provider can make sure it using that, and not NB2.

The modem inside the KNOT isn’t replaceable. So another option is to connect to a LtAP or wAP to get “real” LTE, if you need the sensors/BLE/etc stuff on KNOT.

Thank you, that is exactly, what I needed to know

just one more question, is it going to be the same story with RB924iR-2nD-BT5&BG77&R11e-LR8 ?

Yup. While the LoRa (…R11e-LR8/9) ones do have a miniPCIe slot inside… but it’s used by the LoRa card & the SIM slot is still wired to the “BG77 modem” chip on the main board, so you can’t even just swap the LoRa card out for a “real” LTE modem very easily*.

  • unless you use some miniPCIe adapter with SIM slot on the adapter, and still need to cut hole for antennas…

One suggestion, and haven’t tried on KNOT**, is you can use the USB port to plug in a LTE hotspot or even some external USB-to-miniPCIe dongle with a modem module.
**I believe the USB work for data on KNOT, but some devices are power only… Diagram implies it works for data: https://i.mt.lv/cdn/product_files/RB924i-2nD-BT5BG77r2_230528.png
