Mikrotik on x86 with Intel 82571EB Nic

We have a new router that was built using a sunfire x4100 and 2 Intel quad gig nics (Intel 82571EB) chip sets. I’ve been banging my head against a wall for weeks. Initially we had packet loss, 3-8% After assigning CPU’s to the interrupts and turning off RPS we didn’t have any packet loss.. but at least every 1 min (or less) we had a laggy response (over 1200ms). Normal data this probably wouldn’t have been noticed, but it caused an issue with our voip system and any customer who gamed was affected and complained. I think I tried everything to fine tune ROS to work but without any success.

Reading the forums I decided to downgrade from 6.34.1 to… what? From what was in the forums people had problems with the release of v6 ROS and downgrading to V5 worked… so I dusted off a copy of V5.26 and downgraded… and all the problems disappeared.

My question is what version was the driver for the intel 82571EB broken? I know it didn’t work from V6.31 to V6.34.1. Also is Mikrotik planning on fixing this issue, or are they just going to leave it as it is (it seems like the later as there hasn’t been much if any activity).

To anyone using Intel cards that are having packet loss or the occasional very high latency. Try downgrading to V5.26… seems to work, at least for the intel cards.

Hello,

82571 is very old chipset launch date 2005
1.
Did you try on/off flow control, or orther speed settings ?

1.1, sometimes problem is with switch connected to ports try difrent switch

1.2 sometimes problem is with ethernet cable, if you made own cable try remove plastic pin, that squeeze cable after clamp, or do not put external shield into rj45

i have few x86 server , every one based on 82576 and work perfectly under 5.26, 6.27, 6.34.1

2. try 82576 based card ,
used they are very cheap and have under mikrotik 8 queues ( 1 queue = rx/tx together)
no problem with packets when queue rx and tx are set to diffrent cpu cores,

or any other intel chipset 82576
