MikroTik Please Host A State of IPv6 Talk

MikroTik,

As exptected by all the Internet pundits we are seeing an uptick in people adopting and implementing IPv6 solutions. MikroTik has a good base of features that enables someone to get an IPv6 address on a host from an upstream ISP but that’s about it. I personally think it would be extremely intelligent for MikroTik to consider hosting a “dev talks” type session regarding your viewpoint of IPv6 within MIkroTik. This is critical so we users know what to expect with your platform and how high it is on your list of priorities.

I know myself personally view this is a critical topic and is definitely a purchasing decision I make.

Feature’s that are top on my list:

  • DHCPv6 server capable of addressing hosts appropriately.
  • IPv6 address pool and assignment improvements, IPv6 prefix hints in particular (OpenWRT) would be a critical and low-hanging fruit item for me. In addition, allow a DHCPv6 server to be based off of a dynamically assigned pool from a larger ISP assigned pool.
  • Implementation of SNMP OIDs that will allow us to track IPv4 traffic vs IPv6 traffic http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/ipv6-statistics-via-snmp/109521/1
  • RA discovered DNS servers do not hit the resolver cache, it simply forwards the systems upstream

Kudo’s are deserved:

  • Nearly there, with DHCPv6 - You have a PD server as well as client and relay
  • Solid implementation of ICMPv6 critical features like RA
  • Recent default configuration firewall improvements
  • IPSec over IPv6 works extremely well and is very stable.
  • Syslog works well over IPv6
