I have a mikrotik router based on a generic pc. I used it about 1 year or so ago for our cable provider. It worked great and now I’m looking at using it as a backup router. But the new dsl provider uses ppoe. I went in, changed the configuration around and added in the ppoe support module. I got that to work with a few tries and errors. I now have internet on the lan, lan2, and dmz zone. I changed the ip numbers in the existing routes to match the new provider. I even created new routes based on my notes. I have no luck. Now the other two times I changed service providers. All I had to due was change the static ip numbers, gateway, dns, etc, etc and it worked. But since this is ppoe. I guess there is something different. If somebody could point me to a example of route with ppoe. That would be great.
Thanks,
Josh
Is the IP from the ISP dynamic or Static?
Sorry thought I had that clear. Static. Just like the other 2 providers.
In that case you need to add it to routes and IP address. After you setup your dialer.. well if it isn’t partly plugged in for you.
I was wondering about that. I have a set of 5 static ip numbers that I put in. But I’m not sure were to point a few things. It has been about 1 month since I got part of it working and yes I had to point one of the routes to the ppoe. But figured I might have missed something. I have the static ip set to the wan interface. However, I think I tried to set it to ppoe but not sure. That is why I was looking for a example or picture. How the router, and what not looks for ppoe.
Thanks,
Josh
I got it to work. All I need to do was point the ip numbers to the ppoe connection. Then I saw traffic counting up. Fixed the few rules that was outdated. Now everything is working fine.
Thanks for the help,
Josh
