Hello There! I love Mikrotik and its routerOS but i have a strange issue with my Mikrotik router PPPoE server setting and unable to fix this problem after trying a lot. I have 10Mbps WAN uplink connectivity from my ISP connected to ether1 on RB2011 and ether2 is setup as a PPPoE server with wireless AP and all other ports are bridged. Bandwidth remains same at 10Mbps for tx/rx at MT router and at client PC connected to bridge interference of MT router no issue at all. But it terribly goes down to 2-3Mbps for tx/rx at my wireless AP clients end connected to PPPoE server interface. Even when i direct connect an another MT router to PPPoE server interface ether2 configuring this router as a PPPoE client i get the approx. same bandwidth near about 10Mbps, but as soon as i connect this PPPoE server ether2 interface to connected wireless AP to my clients bandwidth drastically drops to 2-3Mbps. Any one of out there MT exert can help me on this problem to help me in fixing this problem. Any genuine help will be heartily appreciated. Thanks.
Well, the obvious is they have a different queueing system than the profile you are connecting to with your computer, but I’m sure you’ve vetted this. I would suspect this if the speed is consistently the same. This can also be the case if you have multiple clients and it is dividing the bandwidth vs the one client. A good test would be to connect a single pppoe customer via the AP and see what the performance is.
Generically, with any sort of awful tunnel performance, you would look at a) CPU, and b) MTU. The 2011 isn’t super capable, but should be able to easily handle what it looks like you are throwing at it CPU-wise. Just check to make sure you aren’t hitting your CPU ceiling. MTU is a little bit more of a pain to troubleshoot deterministically, but you can play with values and see. The typical MTU of 1480 should be OK as long as PPPoE is the only extra encap you are using.
