Mikrotik R11e-5HnD x86 openWrt

Hi all,

I have a task where I need to add a Mikrotik R11e-5HnD to an x86 openWrt router.

We are seeing the radio, except in ‘monitor’ mode. This is indicated as a 3x3 radio, but as indicated below it is a 2x2 physically.

The ath9k driver should handle this radio. Is anyone else using this radio?

Let me know if there is any additional information I would need to post.

Thanks,
–Joe.

You need to check out openwrt forums?? What are you doing here???

And there wasn’t really another forum that seemed to be applicable at the time, and it is an OS question. This would be a great indication that someone has seen this issue elsewhere.

Add to the teeny indication that the R11e-5HnD is a Mikrotik radio, this is a support forum. I’m investigating why I’m not seeing the radio correctly. There is scant support documentation out there.

There are indications that there are problematic radios out there with different firmware, as in here:

If support cannot be found, then silence indicates no support.

Otherwise, a polite

I don’t know.

would have sufficed, if a response was so necessary, and recommend a suitable Mikrotik subforum.

I have gone into the openWrt forum as well, prior to mistakenly ‘landing’ here.

“Any reasons not use X86 RouterOS?” might have been a better retort.

Mikrotik uses their own drivers in RouterOS, so it’s 3x3 there. I think they sell it as an add-on for their routers…as indicated by they don’t offer drivers for them. If they didn’t just work on a Routerboard device, it be a bug.

So other than looking at the ath9k source OpenWRT is using to see how it determines the number of antennas ports, not a lot can be done.

Thank You. I’ve gone that direction as well.
