Help!!!
I got a MikroTik RB SXT Lite2, but i cannot connect to internet.
My NETWORK:
a) the wireless ROOT ROUTER, 2.4 GHz band, IP address 192.168.1.254, wireless mode 802.11g,
connected to internet by optical fiber,
with DHCP function, giving IP addresses between 192.168.1.1 and 254,
encryption type: TKIP
b) my PC (Windows XP Home edition 32bit SP3) connected (>LAN port RJ45>PoE injector>ethernet cable>) to
MikroTik RB SXT 2nDr2 Lite2 (that should connect to the root router, 28 meters away)
I left (in Wireless Network/Internet Protocol TCP/IP set up) the default automatically get an IP and a DNS server address.
I post the screenshot of the WebFig v.5.24/Quick set page I reached
I can see the root router SSID (which I select),
I’m asked the password (that I introduce),
but then I do not get the connection to internet.
I did not modify the default Mikrotik DHPC client set up
looks like you are not getting a DHCP IP from your AP.
Maybe you could upgrade the SXT to v6.7 and check again?
You can also try to set a manual WAN ip address and gateway and check if you can ping the wireless gateway.
Also try to reset the boards configuration and check again - click on the Reset Configuration button in the Quickset.
I forgot to say that the connection is very unstable, looking at the Quick set page and the leds, (few, 5 - 7, seconds appears and then disappears for 3 - 4 seconds, very regularly, I would say).
That’s NOT happening, it’s not the case with a wireless adapter (namely TP-Link TL-WN822N 300 Mbps High Gain Wireless N USB Adapter)
In details, how to set a manual WAN ip address and gateway and ping the wireless gateway ?
Not having the internet connection by means of my MikroTik, How to install the new RouterOS v.6.7 ? I downloaded it by means of the TP-Link TL-WN822N wireless adapter
DHCP server MikroTik function: should I activate, enable it (check the box in the Quick set page) or would it be conflicting with the root router DHCP function ?
sounds like you’re not connecting wirelessly. I’d use winbox (free downloadable Mikrotik windows program). Once you’ve installed winbox, you can click the three dots next to the “connect to” field to browse to the SXT. Or if you’re setup on the same subnet just enter the IP, likely 192.168.88.1. Then once you are connected with winbox, on the left hand side, click files. There you can drag and drop the appropriate router OS file from http://www.mikrotik.com/download. You’ll want the mipsbe platform for an SXT. then do a reboot in system->reboot and it will upgrade to 6.7.
To troubleshoot your wireless connectivity, I would enable logging in system->logging, click the red plus sign to add a new logging rule. Choose for topics: wireless and then add another topic (by clicking the black down arrow to the right of the field for Topics and choose “info”. Action can be memory. You are now logging ‘wireless’ ‘info’ to the memory of the SXT. Now go back to winbox on the left hand menu click “Log” to see your logs. You’ll probably see it not getting connected due to wrong credentials or not being in the access control list of your AP. I’d start with a wireless scan and once you see your AP, click connect. To change the wireless settings outside of what little quick-set allows, go to ‘Wireless’ and then click on the ‘security profiles’ tab. From there, Authentication types and cyphers as well as the right WPA and/or WPA2 keys are whats important. Not sure how your AP is setup. But basically you’ll need to match things up or your wireless will not connect. You’ll see the SXT connecting by the LEDs on the back of the SXT or in winbox on the Registration tab of “wireless tables”.
Once you can connnect then dorking with IP settings might be needed.
