MIKROTIK RB4011iGS+RM, reset of routeros

Hello everyone, I have recently bought MIKROTIK RB4011iGS+RM and configured it via winbox with quick setup. My ip address is 10.0.0.1 with 255.255.254.0.
The problem is that I forgot my password and I’d like to perform factory defaults reset but it’s not working.
I have tried 30-30-30 method and holding reset button until green light starts blinking but nothing worked.
I’m not very experienced with netinstall but I gave it a try while watching official tutorial on YouTube, however it did not work (no hdd after restart and holding reset button)
I think it’s because of the different ip address - they were using mikrotiks default IP.

Could someone please advise me on how to reset this routerboard? I see there is also console port but I’m not sure what kind of cable I should use.

Thanks a lot!

Not familiar with the “30-30-30” method, but this Wiki page gives the reset procedures: https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Reset

Netinstall can be quite picky. Having done so recently with a LHG link radio, I can tell you that the procedure worked after resolving a Windows firewall issue in the laptop I was using. Note that in my case the LHG was also not using the default 192.168.88.1 address, but the procedure worked as written. In fact it was not even using Mikrotik firmware when I started.

Thank you for comment. By 30-30-30 I meant pressing and holding reset button 30 seconds when the router was on, then turn the router off while still holding the button for 30 seconds and still holding it 30 seconds while turning the router on.

I’ll try to read netinstall manual more thoroughly

You don’t need neinstall just to restore the factory default configuration - for that, it is sufficient to follow the procedure on the page suggested by @k6ccc. As that manual page may be quite confusing, I copy and comment here the part relevant to you:

How to reset configuration

  1. unplug the device from power

  2. press and hold the button right after applying power (i.e. not before applying power)

Note: hold the button until LED will start flashing (there are various LEDs on various devices, so wait for one of them to start flashing regularly. Ignore whatever light effects that happen during, say, first 5 seconds after applying the power - all the LEDs must first reach some stable state and then one of them starts flashing regularly)

  1. release the button to clear configuration (release it immediately as you notice the regular flashing, otherwise you might end up in netinstall mode which does not reset the configuration unless you actually do the netinstall)

Thank you guys, it helped.
Right when I plugged the power in, I started holding reset button and when the green led started flashing, I immediately stopped holding the button.

The issue was that I was holding it for too long.

Thank you
