Mikrotik RB750G as a firewall

Hi all,

I’m a beginner at mikrotik and i have a spare RB750G around.
Is it possible to use it as a “pure” firewall device? eg: no routing or other things will be done by it? etc…
I’m not sure if i explained it correctly but my point is i juz want it to be a firewall.
How to i set it up if possible?

Sure.

Mind you, most firewalls are layer three devices, so that obviously involves routing.

Or maybe specify what you mean by “pure firewall”.

If I understand what you are looking for.

1.) Add a bridge and add at least two ports to it.
2.) In the bridge configuration be sure to check “use IP firewall”.
3.) Add in whatever filter rules you need/want.

This way the MikroTik doesn’t do any routing, and you still get the functions of the firewall.
