MikroTik RBSXTG2HnD as Point-to-Multipoint AP

Hi,

I would like to ask, have you ever used MikroTik RBSXTG2HnD 2.4GHz Dual Chain 802.11b/g/n CPE/AP as Point-to-Multipoint Access Point?

My plan is to put RBSXTG2HnD on the roof (it’s on 16th floor) and I want all users on the opposite building (their laptops, gadgets, etc) able to connect to this AP (max range between this AP on roof to the ground is around 200M, I’ve already measured using laser measurement)

Any clue if my plan will works, or you guys have another option?

I’ve lots of experience using MikroTik for Point-to-Point, but to be honest this will be my first experience using MikroTik for Point-to-Multipoint, is MikroTik good and reliable in handling Point-to-Multipoint users?

Thank you and I hope hearing from you guys soon.

It’s too far. The Ap will be seen at clients with good signal, but many weak clients on the opposite side and mostly behind obstacles will not be able to connect to the Ap. Their signal at sxt will be too weak, if any.

Hi jarda,

Thank you for your reply.

Any good idea which AP should I use in this situation?

The range between building A (our roof which SXT will be placed) and building B (where the clients resides) is 50m, so it’s like this:

Sorry about the maximum range connecting client was reported too much if it’s 250m, in this situation I’d say they would connect from the range of 100m at most.

Will my RBSXTG2HnD placement be effective in this situation?

Well, maybe you can try it. The clients at windows can have some chance and maybe you can put additional sxt to the lower level to get closer to the clients. Still keep in mind that the client’s and their position inside the opposite building are the limitation. Don’t expect reliable connection for client’s inside the building. Especially if there are already other access points inside…

Alright then, I will make the purchase, thank you.

Keep us informed about the results.

Sure thing, I just got the RB but when I set it to AP Bridge mode, it doesn’t broadcast the SSID as it should.

Called the technical support team, they said it maybe product defect, so I RMA-ed the RB for exchange.

Bad luck. Hope second time it will be better.
