MikroTik Router as Wireless Extender in network with captive portal

Hello Everybody.

I’ve already had a look on many topics around the internet and looks like I’ve followed all the available paths with no good results.

Following I’ll explain my problem.

I’m administering a simple network in a Hotel with 49 rooms which is providing wi-fi internet access via captive portal (Zeroshell with Zerotruth).
At the moment we have a main modem/router (optical fibre) wired to the PC with Windows 7 64bit running the captive portal which is wired to a Netgear Nighthawk (D7000) broadcasting the wi-fi network for our customers with no network password. Moreover, in order to cover the entire building, we have several Netgear range extender in chain. Everything works very well.

In the last few days I had to add one more extender and I thought was a good idea to use our MikroTik RouterBoard RB951Vi-2HnD resulting from the disassembling of our “old” back-up network.

I’ve updated the firmware to the last stable version and I’ve tried to set it up in order to add it to the existing extenders chain.

My last settings:

  • Added master wlan1 and connected it to the first ring of the chain “Viserba 0” (Netgear Nighthawk) as station pseudobridge with DHCP with no security profile;
  • Added VLAN wlan2 as ap bridge with different SSID and no security profile;
  • Created a bridge and added to its ports wlan1 and wlan2 (ether1 was already there);
  • I’ve made sure my wlan1 had his ip adress.

With this configuration I can get through ONLY in wired mode (laptop connected to the MikroTik’s ethernet port). If I try to connect to the wlan2 (VLAN; SSID “Viserba Test”) I can get the IP and looks like there is access to the internet but it’s not surfing; like there is no connection at all indeed.

I’ve tried to add tunnels, WDS, routings, adding different bridges but nothing is working and now I don’t know what to do (of course everytime I apply my settings and reboot the system).

Please help me because this is driving me mad.

Thanks a lot.
