Hello all,
Over sometime working with Mikrotik routers, has revealed that we occasionally cannot access certain sites until we are forced to painstakingly reset to defaults and reconfigure.
Could there be a work around for this as we cannot reset some core routers to defaults.
Please note that Trace and ping tools show complete results but the sites still fail to load even after clearing browsing data and cache.
Kindly advise
Perhaps, this happens when there is a full moon and its raining??
In other words, very amusing to ask questions without any useful information.
Useful information like? please ask?
Like showing configuration which doesn’t work for you. Most of times computers in general (and MT routers in particular) do exactly what tgey’re programmed to do … but sometimes programmers/admins fail to realize that they programmed their computer in a (slightly) wrong way.
I appreciate your swift and objective reply, my problem is that said configuration is of a very sensitive organization that i cannot afford to share. kindly bare with me on this.
My specific problem is this particular site “login.live.com” has always been accessible until a few days ago when it loads “endlessly” …,connecting directly to my ISP interface minus the MT loads the site.
This is something that some of my other colleagues in the industry have faced before… where with no change in config, a site that was once working stops. i was wondering whether they could be a solution to this other than having to reset and reconfigure the router.
I understand your constraints. But you have to understand that to give you some good advice we either need to see actual router/firewall config or/and be able to conduct some debugging on actual device. If that’s not possible, then you may have to hire a consultant and bind him with an NDA.
MTU issue when you have a mismatch you can’t login to any secure sites like banks or financial companies.
It shouldn’t be random sites it will be very specific sites and consistantly so ![]()

I completely agree. Most often such problems occur immediately after adding an interface with a lower MTU to the bridge(e.g. VPN), after which the MTU of the bridge becomes equal to this value. It always helps to set the bridge MTU back to 1500. If the cause is different then test your network and set the MTU correctly.
