Mikrotik Router Crash / Reboot without any error message

Dear Community,

I have two Mikrotik routers acting as bandwidth manager, both on different platform and ROS version. But both are crashing / rebooting without giving any error message in log. Only RB1000u gives a log “System reboot due to kernel failure” and that’s all.

Following is a little detail for someone who is interested to help me, as Mikrotik’s Official support is not helpful so far.

Machines:

  1. RB1000u - ROS 5.1
  2. HP Dual Xeon Server - ROS 5.6

Note: Both of these routers were working perfectly fine since last many months, and have started giving this problem only 3 days back.

Configuration highlights

Around 200 Simple Queues
Around 200 VLAN Interfaces
Around 250 IP Address(s) / subnets
Around 619 routes
Around 100 Mb/s IP traffic in peak times
4 GB LAN Cards

My Findings

  1. Router reboots randomly, even when there is negligible traffic load on it
  2. Memory and CPU remains normal (according to the graph which is polled every min)
  3. I have a doubt, but not sure that one of a customer’s IP is being DDoS attacked, and may be that’s the reason of crashing

but the most disturbing thing is that Mikrotik router is not giving any helpful log output to troubleshoot the problem, and Mikrotik support has no answer to this problem so far. Any help from you guys will be highly valued.

Thanks and Regards
Ahmad
