Mikrotik Stability in Geode Board with limited RAM (32MB)

Dear All,

What do you think of stability (because limited
RAM avaliable) only 32MB in OEM board (X86/Geode)

Do you think MT (2.8.x), 2.8.26 for exact,
could perform well and stable for
Wireless AP / Wireless P-t-P (WDS)
running Atheros 5213 in 2.4 or 5 Ghz band
without any unused service running, eg :

  • connection tracking disabled
  • web service disabled
  • OSPF, BGP disabled ?

newer version, 2.9 works very good on 32MB of memory. It has special optimization to minimize memory footprint

Are this mean MT 2.8.x version is not good (no go)
for board with only 32MB DRAM for long range
wireless bridge (WDS with atheros chipset) ?

well, it should be fine. without tunnels, extensive queues, firewall, BGP the router will run happily even in 32MB.

but i would not suggesst to use 2.8 at all :slight_smile: , everybody should upgrade to 2.9

We’re have been afraid to upgrade to 2.9.x because
stability issues…

We’re hearing many stability issues comes from 2.9.x…

We’re plan only using 2.8.26 for :

  • Atheros WDS Bridges

  • Bridge features

  • All others :

  • firewall

  • connection tracking

  • bgp, ospf, rip

  • www service

  • queues

  • radius disabled.

So you think it would be work for my needs ?
(32 MB DRAM for only atheros wds and bridge in MT 2.8.26) ?
