Mikrotik USB Port with WiFi USB Dongle

Hello,

I want to connect a WiFI USB Dongle in the USB Mikrotik Port to have two wifis. One in 2,5Ghz (Mikrotik) and other in 5Ghz(USB WiFi).
Some one could help me how to doit?
Mikrotik detect the USB atomatically?

Thanks a lot.

You should have atheros chip in USB dongle. Even in this case it is not guaranteed that it will work reliably .

Then,

Have you tried with a Athero USB?
How is detected by Routeros? A WiFi interface?

Thanks

Don’t bother, it will not work no matter what anyone tell.

So its impossible to get a second WiFi Radio?

I need to set a MiniPci LTE to get internet in the routerborad using the MiniPCIe. And I need also, 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz WIFi at the same time. But there is no routerborad with two radios. Im using RB912UAG-5HPnD.

Not possible with that board. Once you plug in a mPCIe the USB port is useless. You can only use one at a time. If there are no MK boards that suit you, you could always use a nano-ITX or something small.

It is posssible.
You can buy second miniPCIe radio for your rb912 and 3G modem connect via USB.

From rb912 brochure: miniPCIe slot for 802.11 or 3G (using 3G disables the USB port)

There are boards with 3 and more minipci sockets. You can use one of them.

Hi,

The problem is the card has GPS and its a MiniPCIe, not a MiniPCIe, there is no Mikrotik card with 3 MiniPCIe.

The best way is use a WiFi usb dongle in the usb port. Ones sais yes it works and other not works.

Thanks!!

Sure. Minipci is not minipcie. Sorry.

hi, I have a 951ui-2HnD v6.28 and needed to connect a USB TPLINK 821N (Atheros). The mikrotik detect the device correctly but not added to the interfaces. Any ideas? :open_mouth:

How about… forwarding USB to metarouter with openwrt? Then bridging it with virtual ethernet and using in host ROS? >.>
xD

How about this device:

As i understand it may be used as an additional Radio module, is not it?

Edit
Got an unswer that this device can’t be used an an additional AP.

Just in case, someone may find this useful:

or the new page

The great thing with layer2 network is if you don’t have enough USB or mPCIe slots, just get a second mikrotik. Better still, just buy one of their APs
