Hi,
I have recently did load balancing on RB750 of two WANs. When I did the speedtest. This ping came up around 50. Which is excellent and working great.
So, Now I have configured MikroTik hotspot with radius server on a PC. And then limited upload/download speed to 512k. Now the ping is more than 200 and my clients are unable to use skype properly. I am giving it wireless through UBNT Bullet but this is not making any problem because I have tried directly connecting to client port through wire and the problem is still there.
Can anyone please help me resolving this issue. I am totally new to MikroTik so please explain it to me in plain English.
Skype, Vongage, and VoIP in general hate when there is load balancing going on. The same can be said for most VPN services. Since there are control and data sessions as a part of them, you need to identify those somehow and exclude them from the load balancing setup, otherwise you get what you have run into. There are a few ways to go about it, and it depends on your setup and how people are using these services. Like with just a client on their machine or a dedicated piece of hardware.
SKYPE create heavy connections with the server and generally requires higher amount of bandwidth for its smooth operation. I even get sometime face buffering / delay in audio/video transmission with 1 mb link.
When the link will be utilizing your ping delay will increase. because ICMP is also gets restricted by the Queue. check it by closing any application that is using internet connection, then check ping, it will be smooth.
Either assign more bandwidth to a/v protocols or
One workaround is to Assign high priority to ICMP. which I guess we have discussed that earlier.
