Hi.
I have some sector to renew and I think to use R52n instead of R52, due to bettere sensitivity.
I will connect only one antenna using a single rf cable.
Must I disable the unused chain or it is better to enable both chain, also if nothing is connected ?
I use nstream.

i am using rb 711ah as AP and SXT as client. With single chain the signal was -77/78 and with both chains the SXT showed -66/67. I surely believe both chain helps.

But then I have one more thing to ask. I have R52Hn and I try to connect with TPLINK 501 cpe none of them connects. I have just orderd 711-2Hn to connect as CPE hope it works out.

Part of it could be from the power difference between single and dual chain. One thing to remember is the power output MT lists for all their dual chain stuff is with both chains running. With only one chain the power is lower.

the rx signal is better using both chains also if I have only one antenna?

You should disable the unused chain, and put 50 Ohm load on the connector.

Why is that? If the chain of that connector isn’t used, why the load?

About two years ago Mikrotik started with N, at that time i used radio cards with 2 chains, but used only chain-0. Most of the radios have died. Now i put antenna on chain-0 and a load on chain-1.

I’m not sure about N, but with a/b/g there is a leakage (~30dB) of signal between main and aux port of the radio. I suspect that the same happens on N.

hmm, interesting… and worrying! I only started using the ´n´ cards some months ago in single antenna units. I even have a series of u.fl connector cards, I don’t think we have loads for these on the market. Never seen them.

So you think the ´leakage´ of the chain/ports leads in the end to the destruction of the card?
Is there anybody else that experienced the same? Any comment fm MT? Should I start buying the dummy loads for my mcx connector cards?=

I don’t know if there are dummy loads for ufl, but you can use a mikrotik rubber duck antenna for that…

I cannot confirm that the radios get damaged because of that, but I suspect that it’s related.
