Mini pci type fibre "SFP" card...

Hi …

is there any where we can get buy the mini pci type of fibre card, i search most is SFTP or PCI type but no mini pci.
plan to put it into RB800.

If I understand you correctly you wish to connect a multi-mode or single-mode fiber to your RB800? And you are looking for a card to go into one of the mini-pci slots that are mounted inside the RB800?

Just wondering, but wouldn’t it be easier to use a media converter? Then you can just use a copper port and use the media converter to make it fiber. A device like this for example: http://www.box.co.uk/system/productimage.aspx?Id=502709&maxwidth=815&blank=true

If you need something else or the setup you had in mind is different, please provide a better detailed explenation of what you are trying to accomplish.

Hi basically i have think as what you advice, but this will involve and risk of:

  1. We need the extra power for the Fibre media converter.
  2. Ethernet still may have some issue when there is lightning around it.
  3. another point of failure (we used to be use Allied Telesis brand) but it cannot last.

so, what i need is, is either the RB800 new version come with SFP port, or there is minipci type fibre interface.
with this, sure we will not worry on the LAN connectivity as we know power have no issue at all.

Hi,

This could maybe do the trick. It’s just a link, not sure if the form factor will help and not sure about the power load too. You would still need a card that then rides on top and the SFP.

P.S. I would personally still go for the media convertor option at this point. Even if the above would work, you still have too many potential points of failure and compatibilty. These MC units are now cheap enough to play around with and if your powerfeed is a sure bet, then that should not be a problem. Also, the short ethernet cable should not pose any risk from lighting.
