MiniPCI adapter RouterBOARD 14 problem

hello all,

i had a MiniPCI adapter RouterBOARD 14 with 4 minipci atheros installed on a routerboard 220, working for 8 months without any problem.
all 4 mini-pci were connected through backbone links to other mt routers.

the performance was not so good, so i decided to leave one minipci on the routerboard 220, and use the adapter with a P4/2.6Ghz motherboard.

The new system boots normally, but freezes after 30’-60’.
Its an Jetway motherboard with VIA chipset, on board VGA and lan. It has 3 pci slots, where i have another pci ethernet card.

has anyone encountered any incompatibility problems with this MiniPCI adapter and a normal motherboard ?

the last 2 days i keep on climbing to this tower, so any help will be appreciated…

i got this answer from MT support:

Hello,

no there have been no probems as far as we have tested, but maybe your computer has a resource conflict because of the many interfaces. try removing some other PCI cards or disable some unused things in the BIOS (like onboard audio, modem etc).

Sincerely,
Normunds

The problem seems to be solved, after motherboard replacement.
The old one was a Jetway (!!??), today I bought an Elite and it seems to run fine.

I run a bw test through this router using 2 wireless interfaces (12mbps), a lan bw-test (100mbps) and a bw-test to the localhost (127.0.0.1) and it works without freezing the last 30’

Thank you very much for the help.

so, the conclusion is, use motherboards from known brands

If the mini-pci are atheros based there are some issues with via chipset and atheros.

What is the chipset of your new mobo?

Thanks

Can you say whether the new board’s chipset is VIA?

We see lock-up on Via mini-ITX, it seems a poor design allowing or causing bus lockup, with VIA CPU and chipset.

Conversely, anyone NOT getting lock-ups using VIA chipsets?

We solved this using a custom BIOS on a VIA platform

Regards

It’s a SIS-based chipset.
Mobo is ECS 661FX-M
