Hello fellow Mikrotikers ....
i am planning a somewhat "complex" scenario and i am unsure on how to set-up this "best".
Situation as follows:
- We have two separate sites ("Werk1" and "Werk2")
- Both sites will be equipped equally (see below)
- Both sites should be connected to each other with 4x fiber (multimode 1 Gigabit) and LACP/MLAG
- Bonus question: There should be a failover to a WLAN AP if all 4 fibers fail ...
- All switches will only do Layer 2 traffic with VLANs
- All routing and default gateway will be on the CCR2116
Each site will have the following hardware:
- 1x CCR2116 as router for all VLANs (will be in VRRP with its partner on the other sites=
- 2x CRS326+24S+2Q
- 2x CRS518
We have DAC Cables for the 100 and 40 gigabit ports.
All switches and the corresponding routers on each site should be connected with redundancy, so that there is no single point of failure if one switch fails.
Other switches (access switches in the distributions rooms) will be connected to the CRS326+
We want to use LACP and MLAG here so we can connect one distribution switch to both CRS326+
The servers (VMware) will be connected to the CRS518 switches. Also they should be redundant.
In VMware we use "Route Based on Originating Virtual Port" so there is no LACP here.
As i learned from previous MLAG adventures - we will have those two ports on the VMware servers configured as active/passive...
In the future (Proxmox...) we might also add servers with LACP to the CRS518 switches.
The CCR2116 should be connected to both CR518 switches (LACP/MLAG)
Questions:
- What is the best configuration here regarding MLAG and redundancy?
- Do i miss something and this might not even be possible?
- Any tips and tricks from the field on similar setups you have?
- Feel free to ask any questions if i forgot to give some important missing information
Thanks in advance and forgive my (stupid?) questions as i still am a bloody beginner on Mikrotik ![]()
You may ask me on Fortinet - thats where i am good at ...
Kind regards
